Guilford Press is one of the leading publishers of professional psychology titles in the United States. When they needed an audiobook version of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy: Basic Principles, Protocols, and Procedures, they required a production partner who could handle the entire process, not just the recording.
They chose Jony Studios.
The Challenge
This wasn't a straightforward narration project.
The book is a clinical textbook used by practitioners and graduate students. It includes scripted therapy demonstrations, real dialogue between a therapist and client that required distinct voices to work in audio format, and at 236,000 words, the production would run over 23 hours of finished content.
The publisher's team needed someone to own the process end-to-end, so they could stay focused on publishing, not production logistics.
What We Did
Manuscript preparation
Textbooks are written to be read, not heard. Before a single word was recorded, our team prepared the full manuscript for audio, marking up the text, removing content not suited for listening, and creating individual highlighted scripts for each narrator so every performer knew exactly what to record. This step alone determines whether an audiobook is usable or frustrating.
Casting
We auditioned 10 professional narrators, then ran a structured review process with Guilford Press to select the final four: one primary narrator and three supporting performers for the therapy role-play sections. Each voice was chosen to be clearly distinct while keeping the overall tone professional and consistent.
Remote production
All four narrators recorded from separate locations. We coordinated scheduling, managed communication across the team, and ensured every session stayed on track. Every file was edited and mastered to professional standards.
Supplemental materials
We also produced the accompanying PDF referenced throughout the audiobook, so Guilford Press could publish a complete package without chasing a second vendor.

Guilford Press received a complete, professional multi-voice production that meets the standards required for clinical training and academic use.
